Both audio recordings are of Zafindraony traditional Betsileo hymns performed during funerals. The first "zafindraony 01" recorded 01am occurs during the wake of the dead, mainly sung by the men to warn the whole village of the death that has occurred. The men run around the village from house to house singing. The second "zafindraony 02" is a Lutheran mass the day after in the village chapel sung by the women before the body is moved to the tomb.
